Mărci auto precum Ferrari, Maserati, Lotus și Daihatsu s-au aflat printre preferințele românilor atunci îndată ce a venit vorba despre achiziționarea unei mașini noi, dar și second-hand, în intervalul ianuarie - iunie 2014, reiese din statistica Direcției Regim Permise de Conducere și Înmatriculare a Vehiculelor /DRPCIV/, publicată pe propria pagină de Internet.
Conform datelor citate, în primul semestru al anului, au fost înmatriculate cu 75% mai multe Ferrari second-hand decât se consemnaseră în același interval din 2013, respectiv 7 unități. De asemenea, în cazul mărcii auto italiene, între ianuarie și iunie 2014, s-au înregistrat 5 înmatriculări noi, la fel ca în primele șase luni din 2013.

Statistica DRPCIV relevă că, la nivelul primului semestru din 2014, s-au consemnat 4 înmatriculări Lotus second-hand, în timp ce pe segmentul unităților noi nu s-a înregistrat nicio înmatriculare.

Pe lista mărcilor rare noi, înregistrate în primele șase luni ale anului, se mai regăsesc: Jaguar, cu 20 de unități (-33,33% față de S1 din 2013), Maserati — cu 7 unități (+75%) și Bentley — cu 7 unități (+16,67%).

Pe de altă parte, pe segmentul mărcilor rare second-hand, cea mai înmatriculată este Daihatsu (411 unități, în creștere cu 11,9% comparativ cu S1 din 2013), urmată de Jaguar (51 unități,—46,88%), Chrysler (32 unități,—72,41%), Cadillac (9 unități,—35,71%), Maserati (7 unități, +100%) și Bentley (7 unități, +40%).

La indice general, conform DRPCIV, în intervalul ianuarie — iunie 2014, au fost înmatriculate 31.225 de autoturisme noi (+27,19% față de anul anterior), respectiv 98.633 unități second-hand (-3,05%).

Datele oficiale arată că, la sfârșitul anului 2013, parcul auto național din România ajunsese la cam 5,98 milioane de unități, în dezvoltare cu 4,73% față de identică durată din anul precedent. Din acest total, aproape 4,7 milioane de exemplare erau autoturisme, iar peste 3,3 milioane aveau motoare pe benzină.

Totodată, 1,91 milioane de vehicule din parcul auto național erau mai vechi de 6-10 ani, iar 1,42 milioane de unități aveau un grad de uzură cuprins între 11 și 15 ani. Aproape 1,14 milioane de mașini erau mai vechi de 20 de ani.

În plus, la nivel general, 2,35 de milioane români au favorit mașinile Diesel, iar 3,32 de milioane cele pe benzină.

As mentioned in a previous story, the Daihatsu stand at the 2014 Indonesia International Motor Show is pretty relevant for Malaysians, with Daihatsu and our local market leader Perodua being sisters. The Daihatsu Sirion sold in the archipelago is the best example – launched at IIMS 2011, it is a Daihatsu-badged Perodua Myvi that is made in Rawang, Malaysia.

The Sirion isn’t as popular in Indonesia as the the Myvi is here, but it hasn’t escaped the tuning and customisation scene. Seen here are two winning cars that participated in the local Sirion Dress-Up Challenge. They have been worked on extensively, inside and out. The grey car is done up in a sporty “street racing” way, while the one in army camouflage follows an “adventure” theme.

The latter is more interesting to us, with a roof rack, front and side metal bars, a tow bar and off-road tyres for the full 4X4 effect. The interior has a jungle theme too, with a leafy pattern on the seats, door cards and dashboard. Pretty creative, no?

The sporty, wide-bodied one is fronted by a bold bumper with curves outlined in orange, looking very aggressive as a result. There’s also a previous-gen Honda City-style louvered grille and big 17-inch wheels with giant Brembo calipers holding small stock discs. At the back, the big bumper accomodates large “air intakes”, a diffuser and twin pipes. This writer nearly suffered from retinal burn photorgaphing the interior.

Like the Daihatsu Ayla GT2 Concept for future Axia owners, this Sirion duo could inspire some Myvi owners looking to stand out. Daihatsu also showed the UFC-3 and CUV-2 concepts in Jakarta, which could be previews of the next Alza and a new Kembara, respectively.

The Daihatsu stand at the Indonesia International Motor Show holds special interest for us, as it’s always interesting to see what Perodua’s sister is up to over there. Plenty of relevant stuff – besides the UFC-3 (budget MPV) and CUV-2 (B-segment crossover) concepts that we’ve already covered, PT Astra Daihatsu also displayed the Daihatsu Ayla GT2 Concept.

Based on the Daihatsu Ayla, a low-cost hatchback, the Ayla GT2 is a ‘sporty and dynamic city car’ that’s also a development of last year’s Ayla GT, hence the ‘2’ in its name. Not inspired by the Porsche!

Compared to the original concept, the Ayla GT2 looks more production ready, with realistic headlamps and a more subtle rear spoiler. The new rear bumper estetică accomodates a single tailpipe, another move towards reality, while the GT’s ridiculous roof vent is gone. The GT2 still maintains that appealing ‘rally look’ though, with flared wheel arches and multi-spoke white alloys.

Inside, Daihatsu’s Indonesian team has fitted white leather trim for the sports seats, door cards and steering wheel, with red accents for all. The racy look is completed with a metal gear knob and aluminium pedals.

It’s a little predictable, the add-ons, but well done and attractive nonetheless. Now why is this relevant again? The Ayla is the Indonesian sister of our just-launched Perodua Axia, so the GT2 can serve as inspiration for those who want a sportier look for the Malaysian EEV. If this sporty Ayla gets the green light for production, body parts will be just a short courier away…

The groundbreaking ceremony of Perodua and Daihatsu’s new engine manufacturing plant happened yesterday in Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan. The new facility is part of the companies’ business expansion plan in the area of engine, engine components and parts sales.

Expected to be completed and operational in the second half of 2016, the RM600 million plant will be able to produce 140,000 engine units of various capacities per annum on a two-shift cycle.

“This occasion is indeed very meaningful for Perodua as it signifies our confidence of growth in both domestic and global markets as well as our commitment in making Malaysia an automotive hub for the ASEAN region,” said Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Perodua’s chairman.

The engine plant will not only fulfill P2’s future needs, but will be able to supply other OEMs in the region with components. “We believe that the demand for engine parts and components will largely come from the ASEAN Economic Community or AEC which will see a single market within the Southeast Asian region in the very near future,” he added.

Perodua’s partner Daihatsu is big in Indonesia, a massive market that’s set to be the largest in ASEAN. The Rawang-based carmaker produces the Daihatsu Sirion – a D-badged Myvi – for the Indonesian market.

One of the most interesting features about the new Daihatsu Copen – which was introduced to the Japanese market earlier this year – is its Dress-Formation removable resin body panels, which enables owners to easily change the look of the car.

So far there has only been one design available for the little kei roadster, called Robe. Now, however, Daihatsu has released the XPlay version of the Copen, with a more rugged aesthetic. The name, which stands for “Extra Play,” was chosen through public vote at the 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon as well as on the dedicated Copen website.

Previewed by the Kopen XMZ and D-X concepts, the Daihatsu Copen XPlay features negru body cladding and wheel arch extensions, a more angular “polyhedron” estetică for the body as well as a hexagonal-shaped full-length grille. There is also a unique turbine stil for the 16-inch alloy wheels (as with the Copen Robe, BBS forged items are optional) and a special off-beat khaki metallic hue.

Inside, the centre portion of the top of the dashboard has been pulled back, revealing more of the silver-painted centre console, while the instrument panel garnish features a metallic finish rather than the Robe’s carbon-fibre appearance. The gauges also receive red dials, with the central speedometer getting a silver ring around it.

The Copen XPlay retains the use of a KE 660 cc turbocharged three-pot, delivering 64 PS at 6,400 rpm and 92 Nm at 3,200 rpm to the front wheels. The engine is mated to either a CVT with seven preset ratios or a five-speed manual, while a helical-type limited slip differential is available as an option. Fuel consumption on the JC08 cycle is rated at 25.2 km per litre for the CVT and 22.2 km per litre for the manual.

Prices for the Daihatsu Copen XPlay are 1,798,200 yen (RM51,900) for the CVT model and 1,819,800 yen (RM52,500) for the manual, the same as for the Copen Robe. Do you like the look of this “crossover roadster”, or do you prefer the more traditional lines of the Robe?

Toyota has fully acquired subsidiary Daihatsu, setting the stage for deeper collaboration between both companies.

Claimed to be Japan's oldest automaker, Daihatsu is already majority owned by Toyota. The latter company will acquire the remaining minority stake in a share exchange, expected to be worth around $3 billion USD.

"The purpose of the agreement is to develop ever-better cars by adopting a unified strategy for the small car segment, under which both companies will be free to focus on their core competencies," Toyota said in a statement. "Ultimately, this will help Daihatsu and Toyota to attain their joint goal of achieving sustainable growth."

The brands will continue to engage in 'friendly competition' and maintain separate management structures, but with a shared strategy that could benefit from co-development and global growth.

Best known for its minicars, Daihatsu currently sells its own models in Japan and builds Toyota-badged adaptations. The subsidiary is said to have struggled in a price war against rival Suzuki last year, according to Bloomberg. Interestingly, a Nikkei report claims Suzuki and Toyota are involved in talks to form a potential global alliance.
